Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 Fly Paris to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
Take the group flight from Paris high into the Arctic to Kangerlussuaq. Transfer to your ship for embarkation in the late afternoon.
From 1941 to 1992, Kangerlussuaq in Greenland housed an American military base. Now, with its international airport, it serves as a transit point for adventurous travellers heading to the Far North. Located north of the Arctic Circle, it offers access to the Greenland ice sheet, the largest body of ice in the Northern Hemisphere. Visitors can also enjoy stunning autumnal tundra landscapes, home to Arctic hares, musk oxen, Arctic foxes, reindeer, falcons, and eagles.
Day 2 Sisimiut
During the cruise, travellers can explore Sisimiut, Greenland's second-largest town, founded in 1756. This charming settlement features colourful stilt houses and a small fishing port leading to an icy wonderland. The town center is rich in history, with several historic buildings, a church, and a museum about Inuit history, plus craft shops. When the ship anchors, travellers can engage with locals in a distinctly Arctic atmosphere.
Days 3 - 4 Disko Bay & Qeqertarsuaq
East of Baffin Bay, Disko Bay is filled with icebergs from the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord. Guests can admire these majestic ice giants drifting across dark waters. This area is renowned for whale watching, especially humpback whales, providing stunning wildlife encounters and breathtaking landscapes in this delicate environment.
Qeqertarsuaq, on the southern coast of Disko Island, is one of two small villages, attracting naturalists since the Arctic Centre was established in 1906. During a zodiac cruise, adventurous travellers can explore Greenland's stunning landscapes, encounter humpback whales, and marvel at the breathtaking basalt formations, experiencing the grandeur of Disko Island and Disko Bay in this fragile environment.
Day 5 Paul-Emile Victor Base Camo, Eqi Glacier
Greenland, described by Paul-Émile Victor as “the most beautiful place in the Arctic,” boasts magnificent icebergs and towering glaciers, with the Eqi Glacier one of the most impressive. Amidst the cracking ice, one feels a thrilling chill. Don’t miss Victor’s shelter, the launchpad for the French Polar Expeditions’ explorations in the 1950s, capturing the essence of this stunning landscape.
Day 6 - 7 Akulleq & Orpit
In Uummannaq Bay, across a narrow passage between two islands, lies the striking desert island of Akulleq. Its ochre and orange hues glow in the polar summer sun. From the island's summit, admire breathtaking views of the bay's enchanting landscape and uniquely shaped icebergs.
In the north-west of Greenland, by Baffin Bay, Orpit reveals an extraordinary landscape of fjords and islets. This stunning region offers hiking opportunities to explore the unique tundra ecosystem. If conditions permit, a zodiac dinghy excursion will allow travellers to discover this remote area by sea, providing close encounters with local wildlife.
Day 8 Kullorsuaq
Well north of the Arctic Circle, Kullorsuaq in Northwest Greenland is a haven for traditional hunters. Here, vast landscapes, majestic mountains, and impressive glaciers reveal Greenland’s true essence. Engage with the local community, known for their hospitality and respect for nature, and discover skilled craftsmen expertly working with marine mammal furs. This promises a unique, authentic experience.
Day 9 Melville Bay
Designated a protected area since 1977, Melville Bay, or Qimusseriarsuaq, safeguards belugas, narwhals, seals, and polar bears. Here, the ice sheet meets the sea, forming vast glaciers that calve towering icebergs. The coast is challenging to access, but from the ship, guests can marvel at breathtaking landscapes and stunning icebergs under the midnight sun.
Day 10 Cape York
Just a few kilometres west of Savissivik, Greenland, the ship will pass Cape York, rich in history and marked by the conquest of the North Pole. Here, in the late 19th century, American explorer Robert Peary discovered fragments of one of the largest meteorites, now displayed in a New York museum. A memorial to Peary, erected in the 1930s, still stands at Cape York.
Days 11 - 12 Baffin Bay Exploration
In the icy waters of Baffin Bay, sail into the heart of scattered sea floes, where dreamlike icebergs captivate as the ship ventures into the Far North. Everything here is in shades of white, and with keen eyes, you might spot the polar bear, ruler of this frozen realm, wandering in search of food. The polar light casts a glow on the water and ice, leaving you with unforgettable memories as you explore Baffin Bay.
Day 14 Disembark in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, fly Paris
On arrival in Kangerlussuaq, disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight to Paris.
